Dr. Stefan Kamola of the Institute of Iranian Studies of the Austrian Academy of Sciences delivered a public lecture titled “Echoes of a Deceased Empire: Traces of the Kereyids in the History of Chinggis Khaan” on July 21, 2026, in the conference hall of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum. 

During his lecture, Dr. Kamola discussed the contributions and distinctive features of Persian historical sources in Mongolian historiography. He highlighted that Persian sources provide valuable opportunities for clarifying the historical role of the Kereyid tribe in the history of the Mongol Empire and Chinggis Khaan. He noted that Rashid al-Din's Jami' al-Tawarikh (Compendium of Chronicles), compiled during the Ilkhanate period, has served as a primary source for his research.

Dr. Stephan Kamola is widely recognized among scholars of the Mongol Empire for his academic contributions. Director S. Chuluun of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum stated that Dr. Kamola is expected to introduce two of his forthcoming publications in Mongolia and that the museum is ready to provide full support for his scholarly work.

Dr. Kamola specializes in the history of the Mongol Empire, particularly the Ilkhanate and Persian-language historical sources related to Mongolian history. He is the author of the scholarly work Making Mongol History and is currently preparing two additional publications.

The museum has been organizing a series of lectures for the fourth year in a row in collaboration with the International Association for Chinggis Khan Studies.
