S.CHULUUN SIGNED A “MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING”

As part of the state visit of the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae-myung, the Chinggis Khaan National Museum of Mongolia and the National Institute of Marine Heritage under the National Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea signed a “Memorandum of Understanding” on July 9, 2026.

The memorandum was signed by the Director of the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Academician S.Chuluun, and the Head of the National Heritage Administration Ho Min within the framework of the implementation of the Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage.

Under the agreement, beginning next year, up to three museum staff members annually will receive professional training in underwater cultural heritage in the Republic of Korea. In 2028, the two institutions will conduct a joint underwater archaeological survey and exploration project in Mongolia. This marks an important first step toward developing Mongolia’s capacity for underwater archaeology and excavation.

The two institutions will also cooperate in a wide range of areas, including conducting joint research and exploration related to the study, protection, and sustainable use of underwater cultural heritage, training specialized professionals, organizing exhibitions, sharing information and promoting public awareness and carrying out other mutually agreed collaborative activities.
